22/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - The time has come to reconsider the location of the seat of the European Parliament, said Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Co-President of the Greens at the European Parliament. “It is time to have a serious discussion with the Sarkozy government after French legislative elections” in June, the MEP said at a press conference in Strasbourg. “A new alternative to Strasbourg should be put forward”, he added. “Is it for the legitimacy of the European institutions that the seat of the Parliament cannot be in Brussels or a European university in Strasbourg, rather than the three and a half day circus that we see in the capital of Alsace?” Mr Cohn-Bendit said, taking the view that a way should be found so that France accepts this debate “in a positive way”, thanks to discussion partners like the new foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner, or the secretary of state for European affairs, Jean-Pierre Jouyet.
