15/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the Council welcomed the Commission's communication “Black Sea Synergy: New Regional Cooperation Initiative”. With the accession of Romania and Bulgaria, the EU is even keener to promote the stability and prosperity of the region, through, for example, a strengthened European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and building on synergies with regional bodies and initiatives, the conclusions say. Cooperation should be intensified in sectors of cross-border relevance (energy, environment, transport, etc.), and on democracy and the promotion of human rights. The Council called on the Commission to carry out a review during the first half of 2008. (ab)
