Brussels, 10/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 18 April in Brussels, the European Centre for Migration Policies, in cooperation with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CCRE), is organising a round table on high-skilled labour flows. The round table aims to provide a contribution on the debate on the future European directive on conditions of entry and residence of highly-skilled workers. Two subjects to be tackled are: 1) mobility prospects for highly-skilled migrants in EU member states; 2) the brain drain and the consequences for their countries of origin.

The work will be opened by Vittorio Prodi (ALDE, Italy) and chaired by Patrizio Fiorilli (Head of press and communications at CEMR). Speakers will include: Luigi Soreca (DG Justice, Freedom and Security, European Commission); Richard Howitt MEP (PES, UK); Michelle Sabban, Vice-president of the Assembly of the European Regions (AER) and Vice-president of the Ile-de-France region; Matthias Schulze-Böing, president of the working group, “Employment and Social Policy” at CEMR; Ali al Hadaui, Advisor to the Amsterdam Municipality of Engineering; Oscar de Bona , Minister for migratory policies, Veneto region (Italy); Orio Amoros, Secretary for Immigration (Catalonia, Spain); Vincenzo Falcone, Under Secretary to the Presidency (Calabria, Italy).

A CEMR press release points out that the European Centre for Migration Policies was set up as part of the “City to City” project, financed by Interreg IIC Sud. “City to City” focuses on the integration of migrant workers into the communities in which they live and work.
