Brussels, 04/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 4 April, the European Commission cleared under the proposed acquisition of the Van Gansewinkel Group (“Van Gansewinkel”), the Dutch waste management service provider, by the AVR Group (“AVR”) of the Netherlands, also active in waste management.
The merger would create a group active in all fields of waste management, including the collection and treatment of non-hazardous and hazardous household waste and industrial and commercial waste and the collection and recycling of glass, paper and cardboard.
The Commission's examination of the proposed transaction showed that the horizontal overlaps between the activities of AVR and Van Gansewinkel are limited to the collection level and that the combined firm would continue to face effective competition. (cd)
