Commission expected to initial visa facilitation and re-admission agreements next week

Brussels, 04/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is expected to be able to initial visa facilitation and re-admission agreements with Albania next week (the EU has already signed a re-admission agreement with Albania), Bosnia Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Montenegro and Serbia. A final round of talks is planned for 11-12 April but everything suggests that the agreements will be initialled on 13 April, European sources explained to this newsletter. On the same day, EU Commissioner Franco Frattini will be travelling to Zagreb (Croatia) to meet the justice and home affairs ministers of countries in the South East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP), namely Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro and Turkey. Last month Jelko Kacin MEP (ALDE, Slovenia) sent a letter to EU interior ministers, Franco Frattini and Commissioner Olli Rehn calling for simplification and less costly visa supply procedures for Western Balkans citizens. The letter was also signed by the leader of the Liberal Democrats at the European Parliament, Graham Watson (UK), who regretted that the agreements currently being negotiated only covered socially privileged citizens.
