19/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has welcomed the decision of the Italian regulator AGCOM to withdraw its draft regulation on services subject to value added tax on mobile phones. In an effort to prevent any possible abuses of dominant position, AGCOM submitted a demand to the Commission on 8 January 2007 to request regulation for tariffs imposed by national operators: Télécom Italia Mobile, Vodafone, Wind and H3G. In a letter dated 8 February 2007, the Commission explained that shortcomings in the market were unproven and therefore did not justify regulatory supervision. The European Regulators Group has not provided a specific position on this subject. (gc)
