19/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has postponed from 21 March until April the adoption of its report on the follow-up to its 2004 White Paper on services of general interest (SGI). A draft version of the report notes that the Commission suggests including eight principles on the supply of SGIs in an inter-institutional agreement, like accessibility, security, territorial cohesion and transparency. It is planning to continue with the sector-by-sector approach at EU level that it has been defending to date, in the absence of clear instructions from the Council and European Parliament over horizontal legislation (see EUROPE 9381).
