13/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday the parliament arranged a homage to the victims of terrorism. The event was attended by 580 secondary school students. On the day following the European commemoration (11 March) of the third anniversary of the Madrid attacks that cost the lives of 192 people, Hans-Gert Pöttering described these crimes as unjustified and, “one of the greatest dangers to security, stability and democratic values”. The president of the EP affirmed before the opening of the plenary session that, “we cannot allow for any weakness”. He stressed that a strong and united Europe was essential in the fight against terror but which should always be led in respect of fundamental values. (ab)
