Brussels, 13/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - At the end of his meeting with he Saudi Arabian foreign affairs minister, Saoud Al-Faisal, the EU High Representative for CFSP gave his support on Tuesday to Saudi efforts to resolve the crisis in Lebanon. After Beirut, his first leg in his Middle East tour, which will lead to Damascus on Wednesday (see other article), Javier Solana explained on Tuesday in Riad, that, “We support Saudi Arabia's efforts deployed in this domain”. Saudi Arabians are seeking to bring the positions of the parliamentary majority together with that of the pro-Syrian opposition and prevent a conflict between Shias and Sunni. They want to organise a reconciliation conference of the different Lebanese factions, indicated diplomatic sources to AFP. A meeting which is not likely to happen next week but could take place before the next Arab summit on 28 - 29 March. (ab)
