13/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of the report by Janusz Lewandowski (EPP-ED, Poland) in Strasbourg on Tuesday 13 March, the European Parliament approved the proposal repealing the 2000 regulation on budgetary discipline, given that it is no longer relevant. The regulation is no longer justified as: - in agriculture, budget discipline provisions were incorporated into the 2005 regulation on the financing of the common agricultural policy (respect of annual spending ceilings); - in the foreign policy domain, a new mechanism has been established for the loan guarantee reserve for 2007-2013. The European Court of Auditors reached the same conclusion in December 2006. (lc)
