05/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - In order to amplify the impact of the World Anti-Poverty Day, on 17 October, human rights supporters from four continents and every level of society have called on all citizens who love justice and peace to support their declaration of solidarity on “refusing poverty, a road to peace”. With this declaration, the signatories show solidarity with all those in the world who are fighting to resist poverty and to eliminate it from the world, pushing for dignity of the individual and effective access to all human rights, in the hope of pooling efforts to allow those who are in a situation of exclusion and poverty to participate in the life of our societies. They also call on citizens, local and national authorities and the United Nations to consider the poorest as being at the fore in the fight against poverty, saying they should be involved in the conception, establishment and assessment of policies that concern them. This declaration may be signed until 1 October 2007 on http://www.oct17.org. It will then be forwarded to the United Nations. (gb)
