European Estates General in Lille on 17 March

Brussels, 05/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - To launch the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the European Movement, the “Notre Europe” Movement and the NGO Europa Nova will hold the first European Estates General, with some forty organisations taking part. The aim is to bring together citizens and representatives of civil society along with European figures of the highest standing, including Jacques Delors, Mario Monti, Alvaro Gil Robles, Jean-Marie Cavada, Jacques Barrot, Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa and others. The theme will be: “Can we be proud to be European?”

16 workshops will debate the values of the European Union and its objectives. Among those taking part will be Philippe Herzog, Alain Lamassoure, Harlem Désir, Pervenche Berès, Elisabeth Guigou, Eneko Landaburu, Pascale Andréani, Pierre Lequiller. The conclusions will be drawn by Sylvie Goulard, President of Mouvement Européen-France, Gaëtane Ricard-Hihoul, Secretary General of Notre Europe, and Yves Bertoncini of Europa Nova. (fr)
