Brussels, 28/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Citizens Action Service (ECAS) is holding a seminar, “Seeing the wood for the trees after the Year of Workers' Mobility - Recommendations for Policy Action on, Workers' Mobility” in Brussels on 16 March. Chairing the seminar will be former European Competition Commissioner and ECAS President Mario Monti. The seminar, the final piece in an international project by ECAS, and supported by the European Commission, as part of the events marking the European Year of Workers' Mobility, is expected to attract an audience of over 150 participants (representing the EP, governments, local and regional authorities, the social partners, organised civil society and academia).
The seminar will take the form of a series of three panel discussions on (1) the citizens' perspective of worker mobility, (2) the economic perspective, and (3) the regulatory perspective. Each of the panel discussions will be followed by a brainstorming session involving the public. The final session will pick up the threads of the three panels and select recommendations to be presented to the EU institutions. During the course of this day of reflection, the main achievements of the Year of Workers' Mobility and prospects for the Mobility Action Plan will be presented, as will the latest report by ECAS on the impact of the 2007 enlargement on free movement of persons.
