28/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the Council of the EU adopted opinions ratifying the Commission's analysis of the stability and convergence programmes of 20 member states: Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden and United Kingdom (EUROPE 9350, 9361, 9365). Joaquin Almunia declared to the press: “I am moderately happy on how objectives are implemented by member states”. He said that the current healthy economic situation should be more widely taken advantage of for carrying out the minimum 0.5 adjustment a year as stipulated in the Stability and Growth Pact. (ab)
