31/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - Charlie McCreevy, European commissioner for the internal market, indicated that the Commission had launched a comparative study on financial education programmes in force in member states. On 28 March 2007 a conference will take place on “Increasing Financial Capacity”. The objective of the conference will be to raise the awareness of the different stakeholders from the public, private and charity sectors about the need to increase the level of education in the domain of financial services among the EU population. On Tuesday 30 January, the commissioner informed the economic and monetary affairs committee, “I see this as primarily a member state role - but at European level we can and should encourage debate and reveal best practice”.
