Responsibility for 4 November power cuts laid at door of E.ON but Commission points finger at fragility of network

Brussels, 31/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - While it was due to two serious errors on the part of the manager of the German E.ON electricity transmission network, the giant blackout of 4 November (see EUROPE 9300) also reflects structural weaknesses in the European distribution network, said Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs on Tuesday, as he presented the final report from the Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity (UCTE) alongside UCTE President José Penedos.
