21/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the European Commission will approve a recommendation for the Council ahead of renegotiation of the agreement on the transfer of air passenger information (Passenger Name Records - PNR) with the United States. The recommendation will be adopted following a written procedure and will be sent to the Council so that it can begin negotiations with the US early in 2007. “The contents of the recommendation will not be revealed given the delicacy of the negotiations,” a European source told EUROPE. The transitional PNR agreement, signed in October, is due to expire at the end of July 2007 (see EUROPE 9281). (bc)
