Commission to provide €8.1 million for road safety projects

Brussels, 21/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to support 13 European road safety projects with a total subsidy of € 8.1 million. The 13 projects were selected out of the 29 projects submitted for funding in June 2006. The maximum amount granted is up to 50% of eligible costs. Projects deal with training and education, as well as road safety campaigns and control and enforcement. 65 companies and associations from 19 Member States will be involved in carrying out the projects. They were mainly chosen because of their strong European added value, the fact that they have an innovative character and feature a multiplier effect. The Commission is now entering into contract negotiations with the co-ordinators of the selected projects so as to start to implement them in early 2007. (dt)
