01/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Bureau of the European Parliament has designated Harald Romer of Denmark as the Parliament's future secretary-general, to take over from Julian Priestley of Britain on 1 March 2007. In October, Mr Priestley had announced his intention to leave his post at the beginning of next year. A press release recalls that Mr Romer, who has been deputy secretary-general since 1997, was Chef de Cabinet for President Nicole Fontaine from 1999-2000. (mg)
