Brussels, 01/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 1 December, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) confirmed that OLAF has uncovered a case of suspected fraud in the European Commission's Office for Infrastructures and Logistics in Brussels (OIB). Three OIB officials are affected by the preliminary findings of the OLAF investigation. OLAF is investigating suspicions that a tender procedure administered by the OIB (for the purpose of office furniture) has been unlawfully influenced.
The information was reported on 9 November by Belgian newspaper 'Le Soir'. According to another Belgian newspaper, La Libre Belgique', on 30 November, a Belgian official, 'Orlando V', head of the office furniture purchasing policy division for the European Commission, is undergoing investigation by the Belgian Federal Prosecution Service. The paper also reports that the OIB Director, another Belgian called Piet Verleysen has been moved to another department and demoted to 'advisor'.
