01/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - With a view to the second mandate of the European Parliament elected in 2004, the political groups are electing (and in general re-electing) their presidents. Thus the ALDE Group has re-elected as its leader British Liberal Democrat Graham Watson until the European elections of June 2009. We recall that Martin Schulz has been confirmed as leader of the Socialist Group, and Daniel Cohn-Bendit and Monica Frassoni have been re-elected as vice-presidents of the Greens/EFA Group, while the EPP-ED Group, whose president Hans-Gert Pöttering is candidate to take over from President Borrell, is not expected to choose its new leader until after the election of the EP president on 16 January 2007.
