Brussels, 27/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - Examining the policies involving international flows of labour and foreign investment capital in the context of globalisation, the Council will adopt conclusions on Tuesday calling for the strengthening of Europe's attractiveness by way of a number of targeted policies. The draft conclusions stressed that faced with increased international competition, Europe has to remain the point of innovation and be better at exploiting the effects of Direct Investment from Abroad (DIA) as a factor for diffusing the knowledge economy. The Council is therefore calling on the Commission to draw up a substantial list of rules governing national product markets that contribute to putting a brake on investment flows into the EU, as well as an analysis of economic factors like immigration to Europe (including that for highly qualified people).
