16/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - In response to an invitation from Indonesian authorities, the European Union is currently deploying an Election Observation Mission in the Indonesian province of Aceh. Led by MEP Glyn Ford (PES, UK), the Mission's aim is to observe local elections that are to be held on 11 December 2006. This election is an important step in the peace process, involving the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). (ol)
