13/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - According to a Regione Toscana press release, MEP Lapo Pistelli (ALDE, Italy) organised a seminar in Brussels, on 9 November, entitled Florence 1966-EUROPE 2006, to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the flood that hit Florence in 1966. It was attended by expert representatives from several European towns such as London, Dresden and Budapest. Helmut Blöch, of the Directorate General for the Environment at the European Commission, spoke of European measures aimed at the security of water catchment areas. A film was also shown with interviews of the “mud angels”, the very many young people from throughout Europe who rushed to Florence to give assistance. (Information: Tel.: 02 286 8561.
