13/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - As the European Parliament prepared to adopt an own initiative report by John Purvis (EPP-ED, United Kingdom) last week in Strasbourg, on a possible European regulation on mortgage loans, Sharon Bowles (ADLE, United Kingdom) underlined in a press release that, “any action at a EU level should above all benefit the public directly”. Appealing for clear, comprehensive and reliable information for borrowers, she explained that the European code of conduct, in place since 2001, had “already led to some success” and that the Commission had to carry out a progress report before it decided whether it should become compulsory or not.
