Brussels, 08/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - Josep Borrell, President of the European Parliament, will be making an official visit to Italy from 9 to 12 November, starting on Thursday with a meeting at the Quirinale with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano (who in the past was a very active chair of the EP's Constitutional Affairs Committee), followed by meetings with Italian prime minister Romano Prodi, the President of the chamber of deputies Fausto Bertinotti and Italian foreign minister Massimo D'Alema (also former MEPs). On Thursday, Josep Borrell will address the Italian chamber and senate's European Affairs Committee on the future of Europe, followed by a debate. In the evening he will have a meeting with Erasmus students along with Vice-President of the European Commission, Margot Wallström, attended by the Mayor of Rome Walter Veltroni. On Friday, Borrell will meet Italy's European affairs and foreign trade Minister Emma Bonino (former MEP, first elected in 1979) and the President of the Senate Franco Marini. From Friday to Sunday, Borrell will be visiting Cassino and the World War II battlefield of Montecassino. He will also attend a Citizen Forum on the Future of Europe at Castera.
