Brussels, 08/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - A delegation of MEPs from the temporary committee inquiring into the illegal activities of the CIA in Europe will arrive in Poland on Wednesday for a three-day visit. The group of MEPs headed by Portuguese Carlos Coelho will be meeting Polish human rights groups, journalists and a government representative. Officials responsible for the management and control of Szymany airport and the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Agency (AW) are also to meet the delegation. US NGO Human Rights Watch suspects Poland of having housed the largest CIA secret detention base in Europe. One of these prisons is located near the former military airport of Szymany in Stare Kiejkuty to the north-east of the country, and another in the south. According to The Washington Post, prisoners were transferred to North Africa in November and all traces of detention in Poland were wiped out. (bc)
