New conclusions on reducing companies' administrative burden

Brussels, 09/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the Ecofin Council will adopt conclusions on burden reduction, calling for concrete progress at Community level. In terms of methodology, the Council is expected to approve the Commission's approach to assessment and reduction of administrative costs. Initiatives by Member States to measure the administrative burden at national level indicate that this burden on companies comes, in large part, from EU regulation, say the draft conclusions. These conclusions also stress that as a priority concrete progress at Community level must be made. The Council will, therefore, call for measures to be taken urgently to control and reduce the load and call on the Commission and Member States to determine the pieces of the EU legislation and its implementation where improvement, in view of national measures already taken, is likely to have greatest effect. The Council will return particularly to statistical priorities in November and will take stock before spring 2007, adds the text. (ab)
