Brussels, 05/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Confederation of European Business, UNICE, backs the Commission's new strategy, in its more “aggressive” stance in the face of competition from emerging countries. “Until now, the crucial role of trade and investment … has been the missing link in the EU's Growth and Jobs strategy,” stresses a press release. UNICE also believes that the Community trade policy should: - remain committed to getting the Doha negotiations back on track towards rapidly concluding an ambitious agreement; - seize the opportunity to launch new bilateral free trade agreements, especially with ASEAN and Russia; - follow a coherent market access strategy targeting the many non-tariff barriers; - conduct a more resolute strategy to resolve bilateral trade and investment frictions with China.
