04/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has cleared the proposal by the Japanese air conditioning company, Daikin, to acquire the Malaysian company, O.Y.L, also active in the production of air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems. Both companies are present throughout the European Economic Area (EEA) but the activities of O.Y.L. remain limited, so that the operation will not significantly hamper competition. Looking at the country-by-country situation, the new entity will sometimes hold a relatively strong position, the Commission said, although it believes Daikin will still have to face considerable competition on the market. The deal will make the Japanese firm the second largest in the sector worldwide after the American company, Carrier Corp. (ab)
