Strasbourg, 28/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - In a press statement Josep Borrell welcomed the fact that on Thursday the Conference of Presidents of the Political Groups of the EP had adopted most of the “rapid measures” he had suggested for “improving the efficiency and transparency of our institution”. The president of the European Parliament said that this reform, “takes into full account the political role and capacity of making decisions and exerting influence, that the EP has acquired over recent years”. He listed the following in this respect: holding an annual orientation debate for the Conference of Presidents on priority political themes for year to come; continuation of “Invitations to debates” addressed to European Heads of government on the future of Europe; the planning of a slot for a possible additional monthly session in Brussels for debating specific subjects of significant interest to Europe. The working group for the personal representatives of the political groups will be set up to continue the reform process.
