Strasbourg, 28/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 27 September, the European Parliament adopted the report by German Social Democrat MEP Constanze Krehl by 575 votes to 40, with 37 abstentions, thereby giving its opinion in line with the Council decision on the strategic guidelines on the future cohesion policy. These guidelines set three priorities for the use of the €308 billion (2004 prices) made available for the cohesion policy and structural actions for the 2007-2013 period. Community co-financing should aim to: - improve the attractiveness of member States, regions and cities in terms of services and quality of the environment; - encourage innovation and the growth of the knowledge economy, including the introduction of new information and communication technologies; - create more and better jobs, training and investment in human capital.
