26/06/2006 (Agence Europe) -British Conservative MEP Geoffrey Van Orden has once again criticised the development of the European defence policy (ESDP), voicing his concern regarding its negative impact on the process of "revitalising" NATO. Speaking before the House of Commons on 22 June, Mr Van Orden said that it would be better to "revitalise" the Atlantic Alliance with "renewed financial, military and political capacity" instead of continuing the development of an ESDP which "duplicates the structures of NATO" and, in his view, involves unwarranted expenditure, to say nothing of the need to coordinate NATO and ESDP military action, "an added complication", said the MEP.
