09/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has given clearance for the proposed acquisition by the Japanese group, Nippon Sheet Glass (NSG), of British Pilkington. The two companies mainly operate in the manufacture of special fibres and glass fibre for the motor industry and building. Although NSG is mainly active in Japan and Asia, Pilkington operates mainly in Europe and the United States. In Europe, the Commission has only noted overlapping of activity between the parties concerned in the spare parts market for motor vehicles sold to independent dealers, but the increase in NSG's market shares will remain relatively low and the new entity will continue to be faced with major competition.
