Strasbourg, 18/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - The conference of presidents of the political groups of the European Parliament approved, on 18 May, the “principle of an extraordinary meeting” in Palestine and Israel “as soon as possible”, a press release from the European United Left/Nordic Greens Left (GUE/NGL) states. Francis Wurtz, GUE/NGL President, suggested such an exceptional meeting of the Conference of Presidents, and this suggestion was the subject of consultation with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who expressed great interest, according to the press release. The decision of principle was adopted unanimously by those taking part at the Conference of Presidents, in Strasbourg, on Thursday.
