"Surprise" Commission inspections of gas market in five Member States, and of Hungarian electricity market

Brussels, 17/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 17 May, the European Commission announced that it had carried out "surprise" inspections in France, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Italy, within gas groups which it suspected of having violated Community rules on competition by dint of restrictive commercial practices and/or abuses of their dominant position (articles 81 and 82).
