MEPs vote health claims and additions to food

Strasbourg, 17/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 16 May, the European Parliament approved tougher rules for foods to put an end to misleading claims on the nutritional and health benefits. Adopting a report by Adriana Poli Bortone (UEN, Italy) on nutrition and health claims made on foods, MEPs re-inserted in the text the idea that there should be nutritional profiles on foods (Article 4) which will require manufacturers who wish to use health promotion as a sales argument to indicate on the label...
