18/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - The legislative package to reinforce social provision relating to road transport has been published in the Official Journal L102 of 11 April. It is made up of regulation 561/2006 setting working, rest and break times for drivers, and directive 2006/22 providing for checks and sanctions for failure to respect the rules. When this package comes into force on 1st May 2006, heavy goods vehicles have also to be equipped with digital tachographs (see EUROPE 9123).
