Citizens' Forum in Clermont-Ferrand on 20 April

Brussels, 18/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - In the context of its contribution to the debate on the future of Europe, the European Parliament is to hold its Fifth Citizens' Forum in Clermont-Ferrand on 20 April, geared this time to economic and social issues. During the meeting, to be attended notably by European Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot, former Regional Policy and Institutional Affairs Commissioner Michel Barnier, French European Affairs Minister Catherine Colonna, and representatives of the social partners and authorities of the Puy-de-Dôme, the following themes will be tackled: employment, growth and competitiveness, quality of life, Europe's ability to answer the economic development and social and environment concerns of the “wider region”; Europe's capacity to protect workers against the side effects of globalisation and relocation, the Union's borders and Europe's place in the world.
