Brussels, 20/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - Summary: Euro-zone annual inflation was 2.3% in February 2006, down from 2.4% in January. A year earlier the rate was 2.1%. Monthly inflation was 0.3% in February 2006. EU25 annual inflation was 2.2% in February 2006, the same as in January. A year earlier the rate was 2.1%. In February 2006, lowest rates were observed in Poland (0.9%), Sweden (1.1%), Netherlands (1.4%) and Austria (1.5%) and the highest in Latvia (7.0%), Estonia (4.5%), Slovakia (4.3%) and Spain (4.1%). The highest rates and annual rhythm were in accommodation (5.6%) transport. (4,9%) alcoholic drinks, tobacco, education hotels and restaurants (2.5%), while the lowest levels were in communications (-3.3%), clothing (-0.7%) leisure and culture (0.1%). Transport fuel prices suffered the most impact on overall rates (+0.44 percentages points), followed by liquid fuel (+0.20) gas (+0.17), while clothing (-0.18) and telecommunications (-0.17) experienced the most significant downward trends.
