20/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 15 March, the Middle East Sub-committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe unanimously decided to invite a delegation from the Palestinian Legislative Council, including a member of Hamas, to attend its next meeting which will be held on the sidelines of the Assembly plenary session of 10 to 13 April. “We cannot disregard the legitimate result of the legislative elections which took place on 25 January 2006. We all are in agreement that the elections were free and fair. That is why we have to accept the democratically expressed will of he Palestinian people and do our best to allow the winners of the elections to take part in a political dialogue which could contribute to the peaceful settlement of the problem,” said Belgian Liberal Stef Goris, chairman of the sub-committee. The Knesset has observer status at the Parliamentary Assembly.
