Publication of first European “human resources” barometer for top companies

Brussels, 07/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Club for Human Resources has published the results of the first European Barometer on “Human Resources” for 2005-06. Going under the heading, “Trends and perspectives on Human Resource Function in Europe”, the investigation was carried out by Hewitt Associates among forty-five organisations employing a total of more than a million people. According to the findings, the management of change is the main goal of human resources leaders in these companies. The findings, however, point out that these leaders still appear incapable of anticipating how change occurs and at what pace. Other concerns include the effectiveness of the organisation and the ability to attract and keep talented personnel. According to the study, a third of interviewees consider that European integration has a positive impact on human resource policies, half of those interviewed consider this impact as having a “neutral” impact, while 14% of respondents consider it negatively. The vast majority of respondents expect more from the EU and point to the simplification of legislation for the workplace, cross-border employee mobility, social security, company pension plans, residence and work permit procedures for non-EU nationals as being important.

This first ever European study was carried out by Hewitt Associates for the European Club of Human Resources, A European platform which brings together directors of human resources at European multinationals whose goals is to exchange and promote best practices in employment and human resources in companies and among political decision-makers. Club founders include: Adecco, Michelin, Publicis, Schlumberger, Schneider, Vivendi Universal and Wolters Kluwer. (Info: coline.lavorel@euralia.com - Site: http://www.euroclub-rh.com ).
