Commission wants explanations about E.ON Endesa and considers compatibility of Spanish energy merger legislation

Brussels, 07/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - Spain is coming under pressure from the European Commission over its legislation boosting the powers of its energy regulator in the event of takeover bids threatening strategic public interests. A spokesperson said on Monday that the EU Internal Market Commissioner, Charlie McGreevy's department sent a letter to Spain on Friday 3 March about E.ON's takeover bid for Endesa.
