Brussels, 19/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - As we were going to press, the Austrian Presidency was putting the finishing touches to its draft compromise deal on cut-rate VAT (see Europe 9112).
Attention on Thursday was focussed on Berlin, where German economics and finance minister, Peter Steinbruck, had a meeting with the French economics minister, Thierry Breton, as part of the Franco-German Council. Cut-rate VAT for labour-intensive services was one of the subjects under discussion.
