10/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - The wife of Dragomir Abazovic, a Bosnian Serb sought for war crimes, was killed on 5 January during an intervention by soldiers from EUFOR, the European Union peacekeeping force in Bosnia-Herzegovina. EUFOR took over from NATO in 2005. Dragomir Abazovic and their son were also hit by bullets during the operation conducted near Rogatica, to the east of Bosnia. In a press release, cited by Reuters, the EUFOR commander, General Gian Marco Chiarini, asserts that the Bosnian-Serb opened fire and that the soldiers of the European corps fired back in legitimate self defence. The president of Republika Srpska, Dragan Cavic, has called on EUFOR to open an inquiry into the incident which could mean “total destruction of the trust placed in this force”, he said.
