Brussels, 10/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - A delegation of members of the European Parliament's Regional, Agriculture and Environment Committees will visit Spain and Portugal from 10 to 13 January, two EU Member States where floods and fires caused death and destruction in the summer of last year. The delegation is led by a Spanish Partido Popular MEP, Gerardo Galeote Quecedo, President of the Regional Development Committee.
In September 2005, the plenary adopted a resolution foreseeing a hearing on floods, fires and drought in EU Member States, and the drafting of an EP own initiative report on natural disasters by the three above-mentioned committees. The MEPs will be visiting regions concerned by natural disasters in Central Europe also before drafting the report (see EUROPE 9023).
