10/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - In Brussels on Wednesday, Commissioner Alumnia will raise the situation of Italian public finances with Italian Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti. The stability programme submitted by Mr Tremonti allows for a 3.5% deficit in 2006 (3.8% in the draft budget presented in September by his predecessor Domenico Siniscalco). In maintaining its 2.8% target for 2007, Italy feels that it will meet the Council recommendations of last July (see EUROPE 8989).
