Reasoned opinions to nine Member States for not implementing worker consultation directive

Brussels, 14/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 13 December, the European Commission issued reasoned opinions to nine Member States who had not confirmed the EU Directive on informing and consulting employees had been integrated into their national law. Belgium, Luxemburg, Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Estonia, Malta and Poland had still not informed the Commission of full implementation measures, despite formal notice letters being sent in May 2005. Commissioner Vladimir Spidla said that this situation was “particularly regrettable, since informing and consulting workers plays a major role in companies anticipating and managing change successfully”. Following the adoption of Directive 2002/14, Member States had until 23 March 2005 to transpose the Directive into national law, notifying the Commission of their implementing measures.
