Brussels, 02/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Forza Italia MEPs Alfredo Antoniozzi and Mario Mantovani presented a written declaration to the press on Thursday, supported by the EPP-ED (to which they belong), PES and ALDE groups, in defence of effective multilingualism within the European institutions, reacting to the decision to reduce the number of translations carried out and translators in the official languages, particularly Italian and Spanish. The Commission must define "a whole legal framework on the language regime of the Union, for once and for all", said Mr Mantovani. Three languages-English, French and German- currently enjoy a "preferential path which is justified by no legal basis or objective criterion agreed together and inter-institutional level", protested Mr Antoniozzi.
