GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/transport

13/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The contract to build the Messina bridge to link Sicily to the Italian peninsula has been granted to the Italian consortium Impregilo. The contract is worth more than 4.4 billion euros. The bridge is part of the TEN priority project n°1 to link Berlin to Palermo, via Verona, Milan, Bologna and Messina. Work is due to begin next year and finish in 2012.
